INTRODUCTION
When i joined macrometa , it was clear there was a lot of work to be done and i have been priviledged to lead projects that have and are fostering product led growth. One of those that stood out was this project , developer onboarding/activation. Introducing our product to our core users who happen to be developers was something we needed to get right hence why i picked this as a starting point.
WHO IS MACROMETA?
Macrometa offers developers a product that allows them build real-time , event-driven apps and APIs in minutes.
BACKGROUND
Macrometa offers a wide range of product features which so far has been poorly introduced. This has resulted in developers feeling overwhelmed and lacking the support they need to successfully navigate the product and achieve the goals they had set out when they signed up. As a ripple effect this has lead to poor activation , low retention and slow growth.
Macrometa Version One
ANALYZING USER FEEDBACK
The first thing i did was collaborate with our CS team to analyze feedback they had received through our support channels to identify and document common pain points and opportunities for improvement.
USER INTERVIEWS & SURVEYS
To get to know the user more, i carried out various user interviews and also sent out surveys to learn more about the users needs and pain points.
COMPETITIVE RESEARCH
This being a product in the cloud and database domain, there were a lot of competition available to explore their user onboarding processes and identify similarities and differences as well as opportunities for growth in regards to our product.
DRAWING OUT COMMON THEMES
I synthesised the user feedback and grouped the common patterns into themes.
ACTIONABLE INSIGHTS
I synthesised qualitative data into actionable insights through journey mapping and competitive analysis.
Onboarding Tour
Users want an onboarding tour when they sign up to educate them about macrometa’s product offerings.
Documentation & Guides
Users want to be able to access links to documentations easily when trying out a feature.
User Experience
Users want a better user experience with an overall better visual exprience.
Continuous Support
Users want continuous support in form of pointers and tips long after they have signed up.
USER FLOWS
After analysing all feedback , doing more research and aligning with stakeholders, I began to work on my solution. Starting with the flow.
BRANDING
Macrometa had an existing set of brand materials that just wasn’t properly utilized. And so i ensured to bring more of the brands image and persona forward.

HIGH FIDELITY DESIGNS
Below are some of the high fidelity designs of my design solutions. Please send an email to see more!
USER TESTING
In order to validate my solution, i conducted several rounds of remote user testing sessions to validate my solution and also do further iterations based on feedback from the sessions.
The validation/testing stage was in 3 phases - before development (Figma designs), in-development (staging), and post-development (production). And testing of the entire effort across the board was done iteratively.

RETROSPECTIVE
This was a highly successful project! and i am super grateful to have led this redesign and deliver an optimal solution. My key learning include the following
Deeply understand your users
I made sure to closely emphatize with my users so as to properly understand their needs and build a solution that met their needs despite their level of experience or familiarity with macrometa.
Collaborate
I worked very closely with our head of product, customer support and engineers. This really helped understand the user needs quicker, validate my decisions and identify the things that were feasible early on in the process.
